Subject:a series of facts and one conclusion
Time:02:12 am
Current Mood:[mood icon] sleepy
Fact the first:
- United has shitty customer service.
Fact the second:
- Despite being almost 6 years since the last time I had this misfortune to need to fly through Dulles International Airport, it is still a horrible airport for a city the size/importance of DC. Love the fact that they still use those giant APC looking things in need of up armoring.
Fact the third:
- The United customer service at Dulles is by far worse than that of say, Denver.
Fact the fourth:
- Only US Airways has worse customer service than United.
Fact the fifth:
- The US Airways-United Airlines $12.3 billion merger plan collapsed on July 27, 2001, after the Department of Justice said it would sue to stop the deal.
Fact the sixth:
- They are talking about it again : http://www.guardian.co.uk/feedarticle?id=7496935

I was supposed to leave Dulles today at 5:00 PM. I ended up leaving at 10:30 on a flight that the United customer service agents informed me was closed. Closed until I called our corporate travel office and they called United. The next open flight was not until 6:00 AM (which is actually in 2 hours...I just got home...so basically I got home 6 hours earlier than if I had stayed overnight in Reston again). Please United, merge with US Airways...create perhaps the worlds WORST customer service organization ever birthed into the world!!! Oh, and cut capacity, because only having 3 afternoon/evening flights to your hub in Denver is clearly too many.

My compensation from United for this sweet inconvenience? A $150 voucher and the offer of a hotel room and two meal vouchers. The meal vouchers were five dollars each. Can you even find anything to eat in Dulles for 5 dollars? And I couldn't even use the voucher to upgrade to first class. The 5:00 flight....triple 7. The 10:30 flight? A319. LAME

Do I ride my bike to work tomorrow and endure the 26 degree weather, while at the same time enjoying the peacefulness and awesome mountain views or do I go through another mindless 15 minute commute where NPR teases me with something I want to hear (like which president was the first to wear trousers most of the time), only to be disappointed by not even getting to hear the marketplace morning report?

Subject:Bike!
Time:10:19 pm
A couple weeks ago, before i left for my alternating trips to virginia and extra hours at work, I bought some clipless pedals for my bike and some shoes to wear with them.

Shoes:
Peal Izumi - Ampere M1

Pedals:
Time ATAC

The bike shop offered to put them in, but that was like 3 weeks ago..so today I went and bought a pedal wrench and some grease and ten minutes later I had new pedals and shoes w/ the cleat installed!

Now to get used to snapping in and out...so weird to feel the crank arm like it is part of your body

Time:12:18 am
I worked some overtime. For this, I was paid (before taxes) an extra 1,045.18. After the tax man cometh, I will get a paltry 647.11.

I lost roughly 38% of it!!!

Subject:Reasons why Colorado is way better than the East Coast
Time:10:42 pm
Here was my day yesterday:
- Worked for three hours
- Went to REI got some biking stuff
- Went to work again to meet up with co-workers to go riding on the Academy
- Got delayed by awesome thunderstorm
- Went riding on Falcon Trail (14 mile singletrack, pretty sweet..on the AF Academy Grounds)
- Sub bullet : Said rainstorm filled previously dry creek bed, totally took a spill and ended up in nasty river, but was still awesome
- Grilled w/ guys and enjoyed 60 degree night w/ clear skies and stars

Here was my today:

- Woke up because I was kinda cold (had all the windows open)
- Made some coffee and sat on the balcony and watched the clouds over the peak
- Scott came over, we fixed my bike (chain was a little jacked form my spill yesterday)
- Went to homebrew store, got stuff to make beer tomorrow
- Scott and I loaded up bikes and drove to Garden of the Gods...easy riding but awesome viewes (including Rattlesnake on trail)!
- After riding, drove to Manitou Springs and went to best bar in the world (they make tea and cofffee too)
- Drank from spring w/ natural Lithium deposits
- Drank several good pints
- Got pizza from down the street and took it back to the bar
- Listened to some girl from Boulder play folk music for two hours
- Now sitting on back steps drinking awesome Colorado beer watching probably the coolest thunderstorm ever

And since words are probably inferior to pictures, this is the type of scenery we saw while riding both days:

suck it east coast )

Next weekend, we hike to the summit from Devil's Playground! I'll take pictures.

The fact that the ABC store was closed by the time i got out of work so i couldnt get east coast beer
humidity hitting me like a wall when i got off the plane in charlotte to change to Norfolk
the humidity at 6 am in the morning everyday
hearing about michael vick and his dog fighting woes

Also, the LNS stuff in the City Paper is making me LMAO..mainly the comments on the story...and mainly the people arguing back and forth! Pure comedic gold!

Working from home is the best for several reasons

- Noone bothers you when you dont want to be bothered
- I can open the window and enjoy the breeze and the view from the house (view from my office is better though)
- I can use ITunes from home
- Beer is ok here, but not at the office and Colorado has good beer

- There was an F-16 flyover earlier in the day that was cool.
- Went to the AF Academy for fireworks. Awesome campus, but even cooler with fireworks illuminating the Front Range, if only for a moment.

It should be a crime to put a holiday in the middle of the week.

Sometimes I watch London Live! on the weird HD station(mojo?)..usually the bands are ok but ive never heard of them

today they had Jarvis Cocker from Pulp doing his solo stuff and then the second episode had faithless doing two new songs from their new album (which also has robert smith singing on a song..i hadn't seen that they had a new album but i will probably get it despite robert smith doing vocals on one song).

ivan left today. yesterday we got drunk and drank from a mineral spring in Manitou that has lithia in it. we also brewed a wheat beer and i am doing an experiment by fermenting it in a corny keg instead of the carboy. lots of blowoff right now..smells like sulfur in the closet.

i found some Jolly Pumpkin at Coal Trains (the best beer store in jesusland) and drank that today.

ATLANTA — The case of a jet-setting tuberculosis patient might soon shift from the hospital wards to the courts. The patient, Andrew Speaker, an Atlanta personal injury attorney, could sue the federal government for being quarantined on the basis of federal regulations that some scholars see as unconstitutional.

Man, that guy has some balls!
